Eating Dilemma

O.k. My boys are picky eaters. I have been catering to there wants because I am tired of fighting. But I am tired of eating chicken nuggets. Zach won't even eat pizza anymore. Today I started the tough mom approach. Which I probably should of been doing all along but I was tired and stressed. Well the boys didn't eat there breakfast until after 2 hours. There cereal was in the fridge. Yuk. Anyways, my heart was broken when I asked Zach to eat one measly little pea so he can eat more tator tots. I don't think that is an outsanding request. Well he tried to grab my tator tots from any angle. He was doing the sad cry which breaks my heart. I usually give in and he knows it. I do to now. He went to bed with only 5 tator tots and 3 crackers in his belly. I don't know what to do. I am going to try this out for a week or so. I don't want to waste food. If any of you guy have some helpful hints. PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

Good luck! Kids are very picky, but if you follow through with what you say, then they know where you stand!

I have the same issues with my kids. The doctor told me not to cook them something else for dinner if they choose not to eat what I make. I send my children to bed with pretty much no dinner a couple times a week. I have found that they make up for it by eating a better breakfast and lunch. They get more choices for these meals. Someone gave me the idea to not give them seconds of anything until they eat the other things on their plates. I don't make them eat all of the other things but at least a few bites. This has helped get them to at least try veggies again. I also try to provide sides I know they like if I am cooking a main dish I know they won't like.

If you figure it out, LET ME KNOW! : )

If my kids don't eat what I serve then they don't eat until the next meal! Also if they are eating and say they are full I don't make them eat the whole thing. That will make them have eating problems when they get older thinking they have to eat all the food on the plate. That will make them fat!

we have told jared that he needs to eat what we eat, sometimes. if we are having chinese or something exotic, we usually just make him mac n cheese or a sandwich. he's really not a sauce or condiments man, so spicy doesn't work for him.
but for normal stuff, like pasta or chicken, he eats or he doesn't get anything else, including dessert. there is always something to go with dinner, like applesauce or bread, so he won't go to bed totally starved.
he is getting better and at least trying things. he may not eat them and then whine about it, but he knows the rules now.
